The Cat in the Hat

Chapter 1

One day, Sally and her brother, Nick, were playing in the living room when they heard a knock at the door. "Who could that be?" Nick asked. "I don't know," Sally said. "But I'm scared."

Sally and Nick went to the door and opened it. Standing on the other side was a tall, thin cat in a red and white striped hat. "Hello," said the cat. "My name is the Cat in the Hat. What are you doing?"

"We're playing," Sally said. "Can I play too?" asked the Cat in the Hat. "Sure," said Sally.

The Cat in the Hat went inside and started to play with Sally and Nick. He played with them for a long time, and they had a lot of fun.

But then, the Cat in the Hat started to make a mess. He knocked over the furniture, spilled the milk, and threw the toys all over the room.

Sally and Nick were starting to get scared. "We have to clean this up," Nick said. "But I don't know how," Sally said.

Just then, the Cat in the Hat turned to them and said, "Don't worry. I'll clean it up."

And the Cat in the Hat did. He cleaned up the mess and made the living room look just like it had before he came.

Then, the Cat in the Hat said goodbye to Sally and Nick and left. "That was a strange cat," Nick said. "Yeah," Sally said. "But he was fun."
