• Dr. Shankar Ayyappan Kutty is a Consultant Neurosurgeon. During his stint at MIMS he led a broad range of surgeries spanning the gamut of brain and spine surgeries.
• These included intracranial aneurysm clipping, excision of skull base tumors, spine tumor surgery and craniofacial surgeries.
• He was also involved in performing complex multi-specialty surgeries in association with Surgical Oncologists, Plastic Surgeons and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
• Dr. Shankar was instrumental in setting up a fully fledged neurosurgery department at Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi, India.
• Dr. Shankar has published articles in various international journals and has also presented papers at national and international conferences.
• He has also been involved in the peer review process for a number of journals including the Indian Journal of Neurotrauma and BMJ group of journals. He has co-authored a chapter in the Indian Clinical Neurosurgery, Volume II, published in 2002 by CBS Publishers.
• He holds membership in several prestigious professional bodies, including the European Association of Neurological Sciences, Congress of Neurological Sciences, USA and the Neurological Society of India. He is an instructor in the ATLS course being conducted by the American College of Surgeons.
