- Dr. Hany Elbarbary, MD, FRCS, FACS, is a Consultant in the Surgery department at Saudi German Hospital in Alexandria, Egypt. He has over 30 years of experience in General surgery.
- Dr. Elbarbary graduated from Ain Shams Faculty of Medicine in 1994 and underwent basic surgical training as a Resident in training in General Surgery department at Ain Shams University hospitals.
- He introduced the first laparoscopic Hernia procedures in Demerdash teaching hospitals through his MS thesis and obtained the first postgraduate degree in Surgery (MS) with an Excellent grade in 1998.
- His early interest in Laparoscopic surgery led him to obtain Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2002, followed by his PhD in 2004.
- He gained valuable experience working as a surgical registrar at St. Marks Hospital, London, in colorectal surgery under Prof. John Northover, head of the colorectal cancer unit.
- Dr. Elbarbary served as a Lecturer of Surgery at Ain Shams University starting in 2007 and pursued further training in advanced Laparoscopy and robotics at New Saint Augustine Hospital in Modena department of General and Minimally invasive surgery in Italy in 2010. He was appointed Associate Professor of Surgery in 2012 and has published several articles in national, regional, and international surgical meetings.
- Dr. Elbarbary obtained the degree of professor of general and colorectal surgery at Ain Shams University in February 2017 and continues to work there.
- He has also worked as a consultant surgeon in Mouwasat hospital group in KSA, in Jeddah clinic hospital Alzahraa, and Alrawdah general hospital.
- Dr. Elbarbary's expertise covers a wide range of services including General surgery, Advanced laparoscopic surgery, Colorectal & upper GI surgery, Hernia Surgery, Breast and endocrine surgery, Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic surgeries, Bariatric surgery, and Emergency abdominal Surgery.
- Additionally, he obtained FRCSS from RCSI in 2002 and completed a Laproscopic diploma at the University of Strasbourg, France in 2001.
- Throughout his career, Dr. Elbarbary has held various positions including Senior Registrar & fellow at St. Mark's hospital from 2005 to 2006, General Surgery locum consultant at Mouwasat hospital group, KSA from 2007 to 2012, Training fellow for international master in laparoscopic surgery in Italy from 2011 to 2012, and consultant surgeon at Mouwasat hospital group, KSA from 2014 to 2018, and consultant surgeon at AlRawda General hospital, KSA from 2019 to 2023.
