AMRI Hospital-Dhakuria, the flagship unit of AMRI Hospitals Ltd, Eastern India's largest healthcare network, started as a dream of some of Kolkata leading physicians. The doctors, who set up the hospital after earning a name for themselves in the public healthcare delivery system, decided to join hands to provide quality healthcare services at affordable rates.The likes of Dr Mani Kumar Chhetri, Dr Satyabrata Basu, Dr Anupam Dasgupta, Dr R.K. Dutta Ray, and Dr A.K. Mitra Mustafi were the pioneers who laid the foundation stone for one of India's first public-private ventures in healthcare. On July 1, 1996, Advanced Medical Research Institute came into being as a joint venture with the Government of West Bengal. The hospital initially started with OPD services and by 1997 it had turned into a 150-bed hospital.AMRI Hospital-Dhakuria stated its annexe building in 2005 with another 200 beds and added around 75 beds by 2014.
