Full facelift

Why does a person need to undergo facelift surgery?

- The patient must avoid high salt content in the diet two days before the surgery.
- The patient must stop smoking 15 days before the surgery. If the patient is able to avoid smoking even after the procedure is done, then it will speed up the healing process.
Facelift Surgery Procedure
- Facelift surgery is performed under local anesthesia and sedatives in most cases. However, the surgeon may also perform the surgery under general anesthesia,
- During the facelift process, the surgeon makes an incision that starts from the hairline, goes around the earlobe and ends at the bottom of the hairline.
- The surgeon separates the muscle and fat underneath from the skin and may suction off the fat to reshape the contours of the face.
- The surgeon tightens the mass of tissue underneath called the SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System).
- Then the surgeon pulls the skin back and uses a laser or knife to trim the excess skin.
- The incision is closed using sutures. At times, skin glue can also be used. The stitches remain invisible as they are under the hairline.
After-effects of the facelift surgery
- The patient may experience some degree of pain and brushing.
- The patient's face may swell for a while; however, he/she may keep the swelling down by using the cold compress.
- While lying down, the patient must remember to keep the face in an elevated position.
- The patient must avoid strenuous activities for two to three weeks after the surgery.
