Dr Seema Alam joined ILBS in December 2010 as additional professor Pediatric Hepatology. Her fellowship at Kings College's Pediatric Liver unit helped her develop the first ever department of Pediatric Hepatology in the country. The department has grown to its present strength since then and the pediatric liver transplantation program was also initiated in September 2011. ILBS has performed about 12 pediatric Living and one Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation in about 14 months. The OPD attendance and indoor occupancy has grown many folds in the last 2 years of her stay here. Her keen interest in metabolic liver disease is opening new arenas of diagnosis which is exclusive to this department. The department has been working in the right direction is evident from the fact that this year it has bagged two of the four awards in the hepatology section of the Pediatric gastroenterology subchapter for original work. This year the department starts the PDCC course in Pediatric hepatology.
